What does being optimistic mean?
An optimistic person always thinks that the best possible thing is going to happen in each situation and always hopes that the best will come of everything. People who are optimistic tend to be those glass half full types of people. This means then a glass is half filled – some people will see it as half empty and others will see it as half full. Those who see it as half full tend to be optimistic. Optimistic people see the best in everything.
Why is being optimistic important?
Optimism gives meaning to our life. It gives us something to aim for. If we believe that we are always going to fail, then chances are we wouldn’t even ry in the first place. We have to be a little optimistic in life in order to succeed in anything. Having an optimistic outlook on life allows a person to gain confidence. It also leads to a positive mind, which can help a person get through any problems they may face.
How does being optimistic help you?
Optimism allows us to see new opportunities, learn from different situations, and keep moving forward despite any setbacks that we find ourselves faced with. We must live our lives with an open mind, and with one optimism in order to succeed in things. A little optimism is what can help us to achieve all of our hopes and dreams. Optimism also allows us to experience all of the great things in life. This is because an optimistic person will always see the good in things, so will always envision a positive experience in everything that they do. This prevents them from being scared of trying new experiences.
How to Be Optimistic and Positive
1 – Focus on solutions rather than problems
Don’t allow yourself to obsess over a problem or an issue that you’re facing. If you’re currently experience negativity or self-doubt, then it’s time to change your thinking process.
Try to come up with ideas on how you can make the situation better. Choosing to focus on finding a solution rather than keeping your focus on the problem at hand gives you a much better sense of forward movement and allows you to focus on hope.
There is always a way to solve problems if you really put your mind to it. Just simply take a moment to think about what it is that you need to do and think of all the possible ways in which you can resolve it. Eventually, you will surely come up with a solution.
2 – Create an imaginary movie of your life
Try creating an imaginary movie reel of your ideal life. Within this imaginary movie reel, include specific details on what your life is exactly like such as the way you look, the way you feel, where you live, what you do.
Set aside time every day to play this short ‘movie’ in your mind so that you can learn to envision your ideal life. Set an alarm on your phone to remind you, so that you never forget to play your life ‘movie’ daily.
This is a simple mental training exercise that will stimulate your mind and boost your mood. It will also improve your ability to think positively about yourself, your future and your potential in life.
3 – Find an improvement to your current situation
No matter how small it is, try to find some kind of improvement in everything you do. There is always a way that you can improve yourself and the things that you do, so focus your mind and shift your thoughts on to improving the things in your life.
An example of this is losing 5 pounds of weight may seem small when you’re aiming to lose 50 pounds, however this is a movement in the right direction, and that is all that matters. Another example is if you get a small promotion at work, however it’s not quite the step you want to be at. Don’t let that discourage you, as it is still a step in the right direction towards your goal. This process should be followed in everything that you do.
4 – Minimise the obstacle on the way to success.
Think about all of the obstacles or distractions that usually get in the way of the things that you’re doing. Do you have any unproductive habits? Or are you surround yourself with people who distract and deter you from your goals?
One of the keys to achieving optimism is to limit your distractions so that you can continue to move forward steadily. Learn to prioritise the things that matter, and try to take control of the things that distract you from achieving the things you need to. If you find yourself getting distracted by your phone, try putting your phone in a different room while you’re getting stuff done, or simply turn your phone off. Or learn to say no to friends that you would ordinarily say yes to. It is important to prioritise things that are going to help you succeed. When you succeed rather than fail, this makes you optimistic.
5 – Create an inner coach.
Most of the time, we all perform better when someone is routing for us or cheering us on in some way. However, we must be aware of our own abilities and not always rely on other to give us the strength to succeed.
One of the best ways to ensure this happens is to create an inner coach within yourself. Think of someone who is a role model to you and use them as your inner coach. When you find yourself struggling with something, ask yourself “what would *your role model* do?”. In this way, we can solve problems from within ourselves and succeed individually.
6 – Give yourself a pat on the back.
Take a moment out of each day to think about all of the things you’ve done well. Ask yourself “what have I achieved today? What have aI done well today?”. Spend some time to focus on those things and think about all the great things you’ve done that day.
Focussing on everything that you’ve done well will allow you to build self-confidence and will help you achieve optimism. Always be sure to reinforce the positive aspects of your life, because this will lead to a happier life and a greater chance of achieving the true optimism that you wish to achieve.
7. Nurture your mind and body.
A happy and healthy body and mind leads to happy thoughts and emotions. Some of the things that can alter a positive mindset include lack of sleep, bad diet, reduced energy, lack of exercise and bad lifestyle habits.
In order to succeed in things, you must ensure that you get plenty of sleep, eat well, exercise and stimulate a healthy mental mind. By doing this, you can reduce stress, improve your optimism and keep a positive mindset in the things you do. These are all key ingredients to great success.
