Pizza lovers (so, literally everyone), rejoice! It’s the start of the New Year, which means there’s a full slate of pizza holidays for you to celebrate in 2021.
These pizza celebrations are not recognized as federal holidays (not yet, anyway…we’re keeping our fingers crossed), but they are prime opportunities for everyone to come together, break bread/sauce/cheese, and celebrate the world’s greatest food.
These are the
holiest tastiest holidays to look forward to in 2021:
January 20th, 2021 – National Cheese Lover’s Day
The holiday is held in appreciation of cheese, the most magical of all dairy products. Cheese makes our pizzas complete, our lives worth living, and our Instagram posts ultra-likeable. As far as we’re concerned, that’s cause for celebration.
January 12th – January 18th, 2021 – National Pizza Week
Not just one day. Seven days. 168 hours. 10,080 minutes. You get the picture. Party with pizza and pay tribute to its glory all throughout the second week of January. Pro tip: Order from a different local pizzeria each day to appreciate your full spectrum of faves.
February 2nd – February 8th, 2021 – Great American Pizza Bake
During the second week of February, you’re encouraged to not only consume pizza, but to try your hand in making it. Go ahead and mess up your kitchen, if you must, but we suggest having your phone at the ready as a Plan B.
February 9th, 2021 – National Pizza Pie Day
National Pizza Pie Day reminds us that no matter what decrees you uphold – whether you get down with pineapple pizza or not, fold your slice or eat it with a fork & knife – pizza is the common delicious denominator.
Over the years, pizza has undergone many iterations and interpretations but has never lost its integrity or appeal. We salute you, pizza, for keeping it real (and really tasty) since your 10th century inception in Naples.
March 14th, 2021 – National Pi Day (so it’s math, not food)
We’re taking some creative license with this one. It’s technically a math holiday, but who says you can’t have both? It’s a pizza pi(e) after all.
April 5th, 2021 – National Deep Dish Pizza Day
You might need a full day to enjoy a Deep Dish pizza, one of the heftiest and richest pizza styles known to man. With thick layers of cheese, meat, and sauce, it’s well worth the mess and the required post-meal nap.
May 15th, 2021 – National Pizza Party Day
What’s better than pizza? Pizza with friends, of course!
June 4th, 2021 – National Cheese Day
We know what you’re thinking – Didn’t we already do this one on January 20th?
Well, sort of. That was National Cheese Lover’s Day. The difference between the two might be splitting
hairs strands, but we’ll never turn down another day to honor cheese.
June 11th, 2021 – Pizza Margherita Day
This is a call to celebrate the Pizza Margherita, the effortless, yet timeless, Neapolitan made with tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, and top-notch olive oil. The combination of traditional flavors and uncluttered toppings makes the Margherita a popular choice and beautiful ode to its Naples origin.
July – August 2021
Believe it or not, there are zero pizza holidays during the dog days of summer. Total nonsense.
We suggest celebrating these months by eschewing the overdone BBQs and ordering pizza instead. Why slave over a hot grill when you can lounge poolside and chow down on slices instead?
September 5th, 2021 – National Cheese Pizza Day
A tribute to the simple and humble cheese pizza, which is anything but “plain”.
September 20th, 2021 – National Pepperoni Pizza Day
Despite the infinite possibilities in pizza, pepperoni continues to rank as the country’s most popular topping. We’re more than happy to help honor its universal appeal.
October 9th, 2021 – International Beer and Pizza Day
Cheese and alcohol pairing isn’t just for wine, you know. Beer & pizza is the adult version of milk & cookies and there’s a perfect pairing for every pie under the sun.
October – National Pizza Month
When your basic friends are sipping on pumpkin spice lattes, you can celebrate by snacking on slices.
October 11th, 2021 – National Sausage Pizza Day
The faithful and robust sausage pizza gets a day to call its own. Pay tribute with a sausage-laced St. Louis-style or Chicago tavern-style pie.
November 12th, 2021 – National Pizza with the Works except Anchovies Day
If you count yourself among the 75% of pizza lovers who want nothing to do with these diminutive fish, then this is the day for you. If you’re in the not-so-miniscule minority, you have our blessing to go ahead and get your pizza with anchovies anyway. Might as well gobble them up before they go extinct.
December 5th, 2021 – National Comfort Food Day
With an abundance of actual holidays, December doesn’t have any pizza holidays.
National Comfort Food Day isn’t technically a pizza holiday, but pizza is the ultimate comfort food. As far as we’re concerned, it’s the perfect finale to a 2021 full of fake holidays and genuinely fantastic excuses to eat pizza.
