Chef CURTIS STONE knows exactly how he wants to celebrate Father’s Day this year. “It starts with breakfast in bed. Then maybe a relaxing day at the beach—take a surfboard and a picnic,” the 38-year-old Australia native tells Erin Hill.
A day off sounds particularly sweet to Stone, who has penned five cookbooks and become one of TV’s most famous celebrity chefs, cohosting popular shows like Top Chef Masters and Around the World in 80 Plates. His latest, Top Chef Duels, premieres on Bravo in early August. In between, he’s busy running his first restaurant, Maude, in Beverly Hills. “It’s named after my granny,” he says. “She’s one of the first people who taught me how to cook.”
Family is the most important ingredient to Stone, who says he races home to spend time with his young son, Hudson, and wife, actress Lindsay Price. And at just 2½, Hudson is already learning his way around the kitchen. “He gets up with me every morning and we make fresh juice,” Stone says. “He fits perfectly into my kitchen sink, so he sits in there and helps me!” Stone’s dishes are rooted in his love of creating moments through food. “Every time we sit down to a meal together, that’s when the special stuff happens in a family.”
